Temple in Jerusalem
The Temple in Jerusalem or Holy Temple (Hebrew: בית המקדש, transliterated Bet HaMikdash and meaning literally "The Holy House") was located on the Temple Mount (Har HaBayit) in the old city of Jerusalem. According to classical Jewish belief, it was the figurative "footstool" of God's presence (Heb. "shechina") in the physical world.

בית המקדש היה מרכז הפולחן הדתי של עם ישראל בין המאה העשירית לפנה"ס למאה הראשונה לספירה. בית המקדש שכן בירושלים, ושימש כמרכז להקרבת קורבנות, להבאת ביכורים, וכן כמוקד פעילותם של הכוהנים והלויים. על-פי האמונה היהודית בית המקדש עתיד להיבנות מחדש ביום מן הימים, ולשמש מרכז רוחני לעם היהודי ולעולם כולו, וכמקום משכנו של האל.
